Miscellaneous information

Pets
Arizona law requires all dogs over four months to be vaccinated and licensed. A new resident has a thirty-day grace period from the date of entry.

Cats are exempt from this law, but they are subject to rabies and if you value your pet, a vaccination is strongly recommended.

All incorporated areas of Maricopa County have strict leash laws. Dogs must be kept on owner’s property, either tied or with a fence and must be on a leash with a person on the other end if on the streets. Large fines can result from uncontrolled pets and from not cleaning up after your pet in public parks.

Voter Registration
To vote in local and national elections, you must be registered at least twenty nine days prior to the election. You must be at least 18 years old, a citizen of the United States and a resident of Arizona. You may register at a Motor Vehicle Division or on line at www.dot.state.az.us/mvd.

Wills/Power of Attorney
All new GLBT residents should have an Arizona GPGLCC member attorney review their wills and power of attorney to verify that they are in accord with Arizona law. Arizona is a community property state and a will drawn up in another state may not be valid here.

Volunteer
After getting settled in your new home, it’s time to make new friends. A great way to start meeting people is to volunteer your time to an organization.
